I work for the Marriott in South Lake Tahoe, CA. I have been told that the lunch laws have been changed for our company. I think that if an employee works in an "On Call" department, such as: Security, Engineering (maintenance), and Housekeeping, should be able to decide if they want to waive their lunch or not. I say this because if you are on a lunch and we get a call for a Guest we shouldn't have to make the guests wait for us. We are in the job to satisfy the guests as soon as possible. If we have to make the guests wait for us, then we risk our departments as being in-effecient. It then turns to our bosses as to why didn't take care of the guests, which then turns to us as being in-effecient employees. There are some of us who are dedicated to doing the best job we can! If that means not taking our breaks, then fine. There is always some down time that we can get a quick bite to eat several time a day. I am 28 years old and I shouldn't have to be told when I can eat and when I can't without penalizing my department. I am a grown man; this law is making our company treat us like children! It should be legal to have lunch waivers at the decision of each individual employee.
