My understanding of meal periods in California is that an employee that is not able to take a meal period has to be paid an hour additional of their wages. This has to be agreed between the employer and employee that they are willing to work through their meal periods. Is this correct and if so is there a time limit. I have employees that does not have a relief on one shift that is unable to take a meal break. They are allowed to eat and take bathroom breaks but unable to leave the property. I do pay them an additional hour per day of work and we have signed an agreement stating they may have to work through meal periods and if they were willing to waive their right to take a meal break. Pleas help.
