Hey, how's it going everyone out there. I just wanted to come on this site and let everyone know what it realistically is like working at best buy. I quit at the beginning of this month because i got a better job, in more ways than one, and am ecstatic about it. i worked for best buy for about 18 months, and the best buy i worked at, which was in Evanston, Il, near Chicago, was one of the worst stores anyone can work at. everyone who has ever quit that best buy has always looked way happier when coming back to the store later on as a customer, including me. the store was so bad that i was looking for a new job for well over a year, and to even have a site dedicated so that people like my self can take out their frustration is proof enough that best buy truely does suck!!
But i will paint a realistic picture on what it was like for me, and what it is still like for some :
Pros:
I love my fellow coworkers. Honestly, their are some cool people who work for best buy as parttime and fulltime employees, and very few supervisors whom i grew to like very much and become friends with. That is the only reason I was even able to bear a place like best buy, and worked their as a full time employee for 20 months. Bottom line, the pro is that mostly everyone except for upper management and most supervisors are cool people.
Now on to the cons :
Whew, where do I start!!! I started in mid 2005 as a part timer, and the current supervisor for my department right away had something against me and treated me like an inferior. I literally had to hustle for hours, and a few short weeks later when supervisors changed, sure enough I was getting full time hours, but at a part timers pay rate and benefit. I was one of the hardest workers if not THE hardest worker in that store, and it took me a YEAR to get a full time spot. During that year, there were many management changes, as there usually is at best buy, and i literally had to repeat myself a thousand times that i wanted a full time spot before i got the spot. and the only reason why i got the spot was because the full timer in my department finally got tired of things and quit!!! previous to that, whenever there was a full time spot that opened up, upper management immediately brought in someone new or someone from another department, basically, I REPEATEDLY GOT SCREWED!!! finally, i got a raise and became full time, and i pretty much had to hustle the managers to get a decent pay raise. then, there was an expert spot that opened up, and i got another raise, but not enough for what i was doing. i was basically doing the tasks of an assistant supervisor, but was getting paid like a regular employee!!! i had to train the new employees, run my department by myself!!! finally, my store got a new manager who immediately didn't' like me for no reason, and i got tired of it, finally found another job, and FINALLY QUIT THAT PIECE OF CRAP!!!!
Best buy basically treats it's hard working employees like sh_t, takes advantage of them, pays them poorly, and plays favorites. those employees that do manage to kiss enough butt to gain the upper management's favor, basically go around the store and do NOTHING all day!!! thats why so many employees are always pissed because there is so much corruption and politics at best buy. ANOTHER THING i realized is that the higher the position you get at best buy, the LESS U DO!!!! unbelievable, basically, the supervisors and up walk around the whole day putting their employees down, have them fear for their jobs, and do nothing but chat with each other and check their personal email!!!
Don't even get me started on THE RACISM, PREJUDICE, AND SEXISM that goes on over there!!! wow, i once had my sales manager say a derogatory remark about Muslims knowing that i was one!!! and then laughed!! one of my supervisors during my tenure over there basically hired a girl and gave her a higher position just because he had a crush on her!!! all of the managers at best buy act like it's high school, it's pathetic!!! they go around sexually harassing other employees, and offending the rest. I could go on all day, but best buy is basically a legalized form of slavery...the managers lie to all the employees and promise everyone who wants to move up in the company that they will, only to take advantage of them and never coming through on their word....BEST BUY USES ITS WORKERS AND MANIPULATES THEM....some of my friends have even gone depressed BECAUSE OF BEST BUY FOR GOD SAKES!!!!! IT IS TRUELY SATAN'S COMPANY!!!
