When I started dating my now ex-husband, he already had a Sears credit account. During the course of us dating he had requested myself to be put on the account as an "authorized user". We got married then divorce a few years later. Once divorced, he quit paying on the account. A few more years later I had went to get a loan, which was my first credit, and was denied. They denied me due to my bad standing credit with Sears. I called Sears and tried to obtain information on the account. I explained to the lady that the account was not mine and she said it did not matter, since I was authorized on the account it went on my credit as well. I then asked for the balance of the account so I could possible resolve this matter, and to my horror, she told me "You are not the account holder so we cannot give you that information. I then told her that I would need the balance and account number in order to clear the debt since they would not remove it from my credit but they would not give me the information. It has been 9 years since that day and I refuse shop at Sears and yes the charge is still on my credit to this day because they keep selling the account to keep it open. I suppose I will have a bad credit mark on my credit forever from an account I am not allowed to have the balance. I WILL NOT PAY SOMEONE WHO WILL NOT TELL ME HOW MUCH.
