When we got married a few years ago we did all our gift registries online with Kohl's. We double checked the items in the actual store to get an idea if they were actually what we wanted. A close friend and her parents purchased the silverware we wanted and had it gift wrapped and shipped with a gift card. I was appalled to see it had a huge hole in the side of the box, and took several pictures with my digital camera and got a claim slip from the delivery service just in case. The gift wrap was also punctured but the silverware had no marks from whatever broke the box. It did, however, arrive full of "pits" from sitting in the warehouse for ages and gathering moisture. I was heartbroken and didn't want to have to call my friend and tell her about this so I took it into our local store and asked what my options were. They immediately issued me a store gift card for the full price scanned off the gift receipt tucked in the box. We were then able to purchase a similar set of silverware after inspecting it ourselves. It did make me kind of leery of using the registries again since the merchandise was not inspected prior to shipping, but the great customer service has encouraged me to continue to purchase merchandise from our local store.
